Dr Dan Berger is the Deputy Dean (Education) of the Faculty of Business and Law, Anglia Ruskin University, a role he has held for the past five years, following his roles as Associate Dean at the University of Hertfordshire and subsequently at the University of East London.
Relatively new to the HE sector, Dan didn’t start his undergraduate studies until his mid-thirties, having run two successful businesses after leaving school – a property development company and a hospitality company with cocktail bars in central London.
Because of these pre-university professional experiences, Dan’s decision-making revolves around two central concepts: (i) students as customers, and the need to ensure their experience is always excellent; and (ii) the need to ensure positive impact and value for money in all strategies and initiatives.
Dan leads on institutional initiatives, such ‘Into ARU’, the induction experience for all students across the university; and ARUCPD, the Anglia Ruskin University Certificate for Professional Development, for both staff and students. Both have won him and his team various VCs awards and recognition from the THE awards.
From his days owning cocktail bars, Dan still DJs electronic dance music, under the not-very-inventive DJ name ‘DNA’, and tortures his Faculty colleagues with a set at each and every annual festive party.
