Liverpool John Moores University’s business school recognised for exceptional entrepreneurial education and community impact
16 July 2025
We are delighted to announce that Liverpool Business School (LBS) at Liverpool John Moores University has become the first business school to receive the prestigious NCEE Entrepreneurial Award. The school achieved a ‘very good’ rating and has been granted accreditation for three years.
The independent review panel was particularly impressed by LBS’s deeply embedded
commitment to enterprise and entrepreneurship across its strategic planning, innovative
curriculum design, and community partnerships. The school demonstrated
exceptional strength in aligning its local identity with global innovation
leadership, with 82% of students engaging in real-world projects including
consultancy for local SMEs. The reviewers highlighted the school’s impressive
track record, or working with LJMUs Start-up Hub, which now has student and
alumni start-ups generating £18.8 million in turnover from 157 active firms.
The NCEE Entrepreneurial Award publicly recognises innovative,
transformational universities and departments making significant impact on
their communities and society. The rigorous accreditation process includes an
eligibility check, site visit, detailed application submission, and thorough
evaluation by an independent expert review panel. Successful institutions must
demonstrate strong entrepreneurial culture, transformative impact, and
entrepreneurial leadership across three key areas: culture and leadership,
developing entrepreneurial people, and context and place.
Dr James Ransom, Head of Research at NCEE
