The University of Gondar (UoG) was officially established with its current status and autonomy in 2004. Located in the historical town of Gondar, it is the oldest medical training institution in the country.

Founded in 1936, Shandong Institute of Commerce and Technology (SICT), a public institute, started higher vocational education in 1999. SICT was awarded many honors, including National Model High Vocational College, National Advanced College in Graduate Employment, Best College in Entrepreneurship Education of Shandong. There are 58 programs and about 16,000 full-time students in SICT.
