Open to all our members we are running a free series of online masterclasses exploring the potential of AI in higher education.
The second masterclass on 1 April 2025, 12:00-13:00 (UK) will address AI and research: what role for universities? The session will be led by Dr James Ransom, Head of Research, NCEE.
Slides from the first session – AI, teaching & learning, and the end of the entrepreneurial university? – are available here.

Session 2: AI and research: what role for universities?
Our first session focused on the impact of AI here and now, and how it is already shaping teaching and learning. For our second session, we will be expanding our time horizon into the near future, and exploring how AI might shape research, and the potentially massive implications for universities.
James is Head of Research at NCEE, and an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at UCL Institute of Education. He has received support from Open Philanthropy to study AI governance and, together with Dr Richard Whittle at the University of Salford, recently authored a paper on AI and universities for the EU-funded N-TUTORR project.
This is the second in a series of masterclasses drawing on best practice, encouraging you to share learnings and understanding. We’ll start with where we are today and how AI is reshaping teaching and learning, before broadening to the impact on research and society. You can sign up to all three now:
