Dr Gosia Mitka, currently a Vice-Dean Engagement, Partnerships and Social Responsibility in the St Andrews Business School, is a passionate educator, researcher and intrapreneur, leading the transformation of a 600-year-old Institution into a sector leader in entrepreneurial education (EE). She role-models entrepreneurial teaching and works strategically to embed entrepreneurial skills across curricular and co-curricular activities in support of the University of St Andrews strategy – Entrepreneurial St Andrews. She has led knowledge exchange and capacity building activities and events with internal and external stakeholders, including Global Fellows, promoting entrepreneurial mindset. She co-designed and co-delivered the Creating Impact thorough Enterprise Education programme for students to empower them to come up with creative solutions to Scottish big challenges. This initiative was funded by Scotland Future Series and the Director of Eden Campus in St Andrews, where St Andrews Innovation is based.
Gosia is a member of St Andrews Innovation Board driving cultural change toward more entrepreneurial behaviours across the University community through greater engagement of students, academics and professional staff and co-creating a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.
In 2022 she was awarded the Pioneer in Enterprise Education at the National Enterprise Educator Awards by Enterprise Educators UK, in recognition of her transformational leadership and work towards entrepreneurial education initiatives such as the pioneering Vertically Integrated Projects, and university-wide curricular innovations such as the Enterprise Projects.
In 2023 she was the finalist in the international Triple E Awards – a global recognition of efforts toward the quest for entrepreneurship and engagement in higher education in the European Female Leader of the Year category.
In 2024 she became a Fellow of Entrepreneurial Leadership of the National Centre for Entrepreneurship in Education (NCEE) Society of Entrepreneurial Leaders in recognition of her outstanding leadership, commitment to innovation and contributions to advancing entrepreneurial excellence in education.
Gosia is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics in St Andrews Business School. She is an international macroeconomist, and her research focuses on international policy cooperation (monetary, trade and R&I policy) as well as entrepreneurial education, innovative pedagogies, and the role of universities in the entrepreneurial ecosystems.
Gosia completed her PhD in Economics at the University of York, MSc in Economics at the University of Edinburgh, an MA in Management at Cracow University of Economics in Poland and a year abroad at the University of Applied Sciences in Frankfurt am Main in Germany. Gosia gained industry experience through various internships and employment in Poland, Germany and Sweden prior to studying Economics. During her PhD she was an intern at the European Central Bank where she was part of a team coordinating technical cooperation with central banks outside the EU in the International Relations and Cooperation Division.
Gosia previously served as Associate Dean Education in the Faculty of Arts and Divinity and the Deputy Director of Teaching and Students Wellbeing Officer in the School of Economics and Finance in St Andrews.
Her long-term ambition is for St Andrews to be a thriving community of entrepreneurial researchers, innovators, and educators so that together as a community we can solve complex societal, economic, and environmental problems – creating a meaningful impact locally as well as globally.
