Professor Jess Power

Professor Jess Power is a distinguished academic currently serving as the Professor of Teaching and Learning and Associate Pro-vice Chancellor for learning and teaching enhancement at the University of Salford. She leads the newly formed Learning and Teaching Enhancement Centre at the University and advocates for excellence in pedagogical practice.

Her accolades include Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2021), Fellow of The Textile Institute (2010), Fellow of Chartered Management Institute (2016), Associate of Entrepreneurial Leaders (2018), and National Teaching Fellow (2016). She has also held significant leadership positions within the Textile Institute, serving as the Honorary Secretary from 2020-2023 and Chair of Council from July 2023.

With over two decades of teaching experience, Professor Power has made significant contributions to the development of quality assurance and policy enhancement at both national and international levels. She has led a variety of internally and externally funded research projects and initiatives guiding teams to success and has published widely with over 90 national/international publications, including keynote presentations. Jess is also a leading figure in Art and Design, serving on the national group GLAD-HE (Group for Learning in Art and Design) since 2016. She was part of the RAE 2008 and REF 2021 and is an experienced PhD supervisor/examiner.

Her innovative approach to teaching and learning, which integrates academic disciplines and fosters knowledge co-creation, has resulted in best-practice models for developing enterprise and employability skills for higher education students. This focus on leadership in interdisciplinary collaboration has transformed the student experience and created valuable networks for individuals who share the common goal of transferring knowledge beyond the boundaries of their own disciplines. Her areas of expertise include interdisciplinary co-creation in teaching and learning, enterprise, product innovation, fashion/apparel, and textiles and material manufacturing. Her projects have formed a blueprint for innovation in higher education teaching and learning and have been widely disseminated through a series of case studies.
