Matthew is the Executive Officer and Head of the Executive Office at Harper Adams University. He is an experienced communications and public affairs professional with over 7 years’ experience across the business and political landscape in the Midlands and nationally across the United Kingdom.
Matthew graduated with a BSc (Hons) Geography from Staffordshire University, a PGCE in Secondary Education from Manchester Metropolitan University and a Specialist Diploma in Public Affairs from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. He started his career in education and is a qualified teacher specialising in the humanities subjects and natural environment. Moving to the private sector he joined the British Chambers of Commerce network leading on policy and public affairs, first in Staffordshire and then in the Black Country.
In 2018 he was awarded a Fellowship of the British Chambers of Commerce for transport policy, representing the Chamber network on issues relating to national transport infrastructure. In 2020 Matthew joined the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) working across a variety of policy and business development roles. During his time at the CBI he was the organisational lead on Midlands policy, the levelling up agenda and freeports, as well as a Co-Lead of the LGBT+ Allies Network and national lead on Future Leaders Networks.
In 2023 Matthew re-joined the Chamber of Commerce network, joining Shropshire Chamber as Director of Business leading on operations, policy, business support and organisational strategy.
