NCEE announces the Entrepreneurial University of the Year 2011

Coventry University have successfully been named the ‘Entrepreneurial University of the Year’ at the Times Higher Education Awards. The winner was announced on the 24th November, with the award ceremony held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.   The award sponsored by the National Centre for Entrepreneurship in Education and in its fourth year, recognises the unique ability in creating an entrepreneurial Higher Education culture and celebrates outstanding commitment made to entrepreneurial and enterprise activity.

Although 2011 entries for the award attracted a very high level of applicants, Coventry University is a highly deserved winner, praised for their innovative thinking, success in embedding entrepreneurial and enterprising activity across their institution, and their ability to engage all members, both internally and externally. The judging process for the award explored four key categories in particular, including assessing the Institutional Environment, Innovative and Entrepreneurial Faculty, Student Engagement and Entrepreneurial Impact.

David Frost CBE, Executive Chairman of NCEE commented, “Coventry University is a justifiable winner of this prestigious award. They clearly understand the importance of developing an entrepreneurial culture amongst students and to do this the University itself has clearly demonstrated that it is an entrepreneurial institution. Coventry University is now in a pivotal role to help re-generate the wider economy of the Midlands and beyond”.

The judging process required an onsite visit with NCEE meeting with senior management, key staff and students. The shortlisted universities this year were:

  • The University of Central Lancashire
  • The University of Edinburgh
  • The University of Northampton
  • Plymouth University
  • The University of York

All shortlisted universities were highly commended and their entries were to a very high standard.  We applaud the shortlist for their achievements over the last 12 months.
