This award, sponsored by the National Centre for Entrepreneurship in Education, recognises a university that has developed an environment and culture that fosters enterprising attitudes among all members of its community and delivers significant entrepreneurial impact at regional, national and international levels.

The 2016 THE Award winner of Entrepreneurial University of the Year is London South Bank University.

On Thursday 24th November 2016, London South Bank University were announced as the winner of the Entrepreneurial University of the Year at the Times Higher Education Awards, sponsored by NCEE. We would like to congratulate London South Bank University for this incredible achievement and also all of the short-listed universities for their impressive work.

London South Bank University has been able to articulate a strategic vision for the future that has enterprise and entrepreneurialism at its core.  The strategy cascades to all levels.  In their submission they demonstrated how their vision was translated into actions within their institution, its curriculum, its staff and then more widely across their local, national and international networks.  This was evidenced by engagement across all academic schools and through embedding enterprise into staff values.  The judges were particularly impressed by the number of students engaged, the breadth of enterprising activity the university is involved in and the depth of employer engagement.  London South Bank University shows a truly entrepreneurial approach to their pivotal role in the community and their academic endeavours.  The university’s role in the wider enterprise community is to be commended.

  • Entrepreneurial impact: how have the university’s efforts affected the nature of entrepreneurial activity among staff, students and alumni and stimulated a strong entrepreneurial impact locally, nationally or internationally?
  • Policy and practice: have the university’s experiences and activities influenced policy at all levels and clearly demonstrated good practice and effectiveness?
